Welcome to my first real entry. Wow. What a day.

Corporations
First, things have been crazy at work. My boss has been insanely busy with something that wasn't what I expected her to be busy with. Something I didn't know what it was. Today, I found out. She's moving to a new position for (theoretically) six months, in York. So we're going to have a new manager, as soon as they can "second" one.

Since my manager is one of the only reasons I've stayed at the job I'm in, my future is now all insecure. I had already applied for a position in another area, but if I don't get that, things could get rocky. Sigh....

Punk @ Corporation

Ok, so Fnord7 wanted to go see a gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello at Corporation. I agreed to go, and he advance ordered tickets.

When we arrived, we were a little lost (as there wasn't enough room for a band to be anywhere accessible) but when I saw Jose, I asked her and she said it would be in the "big room" when it was opened. So ok.

We hang around, drink a bit, and at 8:55 the doors open to the "big room". We go in, find a spot at a bar, and are starting to settle in, when I see some friends from work. We decide to go stand with them. At the stage. The decision that changed the whole night.

Wow. I've never been to such an awesome show. Gogol Bordello put on the best show I've ever seen. The music was great, and they had so much energy and love for what they were doing it was incredible. I do not regret the decision to be at the stage. That said, I don't think I'll ever feel the need to do it again.

The lead singer had a penchant for standing ON the crowd to sing for bits. Yep. On. Early in the night, someone decided to crowd surf from the back. He fell off the front (near me) into the security "moat". Coming back into the crowd he kicked me square in the face. OUCH.

Then later on in the show, the lead singer was playing the "fire bucket". This involved putting a very beat up firebucket over a microphone on a stand and beating on it with a stick. Remember the penchant for standing on the crowd? He decided that the crowd (near me and including me) should hold the microphone with the firebucket while he beat on it. Great. Until it fell off the microphone ONTO MY HEAD. Yeah. It hurt like hell.

Combine that with the ever increasing pressure from the crowd behind me, the dude who HAD to be at the front near the end of the show and pushed and shoved until he was at the front next to me (then jumped onto the stage and almost got hauled out by security), getting DRENCHED (and I do mean drenched) in beer, and having my glasses knocked off twice, it was an experience I will never forget. God it was fun.

(Special thanks to Fnord7 for forming a slight barrier between me and the squashing crowd. Most of the time, I wasn't squashed because he was forming a space for me.)

Those of you Sheffieldites who chose not to go missed a show of a lifetime.

I hope my face doesn't bruise.

Ok, now that I've had a nice bath, and am no longer covered in beer (I wrote the previous post while my bath was running) I had time to re-read my previous post and consider things I'd left out.

The opening band, the Fighting Cocks, were really good as well. I think being at the front, where we couldn't understand a word of the lyrics, was a plus.
They really were fabulous.

Secondly, I forgot to mention the violinist. OMFG. Sexy doesn't begin to cover it. I mean, musicians always have a special ... attractiveness, but this guy....
For those of you who've read it. In Being a Green Mother, Orb goes to the gypsy camp to find out about the Llano. The gypsy leader, Nikolai, could have been based on this guy. If you've read it, you'll understand what I mean.

And he was about two feet from me for most of the show. I have a photo :-)

If I weren't married. ... it wouldn't make a difference, because he wouldn't look twice at me. But while we're making believe anyway...
